Florida was choosen as the state capital in 1824 for its convenient location between Pensacola and St. Augustine. Three log cabins originally served as the capitol buildings, and by 1845 a larger building was complete. Additions were made to the building between 1923 and 1947. In 1977 a twenty-two-story executive office building was added. The old capitol building now serves as a museum for political and social history.
